John Wagner – Director, Wagners and Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport developer

John Wagner, along with brothers Denis, Neill and Joe established construction materials and infrastructure company Wagners in 1989.

As one of Queensland’s most successful family-owned and operated businesses, the Wagners built Australia’s newest airport, Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport, the first greenfield public airport since Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) opened almost 50 years ago.

John and his brothers built the multi-million-dollar airport, which opened in late 2014, to create connectivity to the Darling Downs region and as a long-term multi-generational asset.

The airport services about 74 weekly flights into and out of the region through airlines QantasLink, Airnorth, Regional Air Express and Cathay Pacific Airways (international freight only).

Wagners started in Toowoomba with a small concrete operation and is today considered one of Queensland’s greatest success stories.

A prostate cancer survivor, John is part of the founding committee for prostate cancer charity, It’s A Bloke Thing, which has raised more than $4million for research and education since in started in 2011.
